The developer of the widely popular MOBA League of Legends, Riot Games, have announced in a blog post yesterday that they would be removing the little-used game mode, Dominion, and its map from the game later this month.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise, since the game mode is extremely unpopular in the first place. The blog post states that less than 0.5% of players actually play Dominion on a regular basis, and a number of these players are just levelling bots.

The post also states that while the main game has been constantly updating and supported, Dominion hasn't, and the developers have trapped themselves 'in a vicious cycle where the queue isn't large enough to warrant major attention.'

They do have something for the people who are dedicated to Dominion, though. While it isn't much, any player who has won over 100 matchmade games of Dominion will be granted a unique Summoner Icon to show their dedication to the unpopular mode.

The map may be making a return in the future for featured game-modes and the like, but as of yet nothing is set in stone. The map and mode that launched in 2011 is set to be disabled on the 22nd of February.
