A little while back we had a chat with Green Man Gaming's David Martin, who had lots to tell us about Lifeless, an open world survival game currently in development on Steam's Early Access program. The game looks to be similar to many other open world survival games on Steam right now, but Lifeless has one major thing that helps it stand out amongst the rest.

"In a lot of other open world survival games, it's very difficult for new players to get involved." Martin told us. "They'd go into the server, someone would come up and kill them, and they'd have no idea what went wrong. One key difference that Lifeless has, is that when you play the game you pick from one of two different factions, and people in your faction can't kill you. It kind of gives that built in sense of teamwork straight away."

This faction system is quite unique to Lifeless, and gives players a sort of 'home base' where they can be safe in the knowledge that other players won't be trying to kill them all the time, as well as some reassurance that not everyone out there is hostile.

Aside from factions, Lifeless offers a breadth of different weapons to the game, but most interestingly Different skills and perks you can unlock as you progress. "There are different skills you can unlock," Martin said. "One of the coolest ones is camouflage, so if you see a bunch of enemies coming towards you, you can camouflage yourself, remain still and once they've passed you can pop up and take them out."

You can check out the full interview below, where Martin tells us about other features in the game. Lifeless is set to release at some point next year.
