Ryan Penagos is vice president & executive editor at Marvel Digital Media, and with the following brief statement made during a live show, he has just got fans of Spider-Man excited (more specifically fans of games featuring the superhero):

"There's even more on the horizon for 2017 like Spider-Man coming to PS4 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite coming to Xbox One, PS4, Windows PC..."

The quick mention was captured during a Marvel show and shared on NeoGAF, and even if it's not studio Insomniac Games or exclusive publisher Sony making any new announcements, the Marvel rep's estimation means hope for fans, as many were expecting the new video game to come out next year.

The new Spider-Man was teased back at E3 2016 last year, when it was pretty early in development, then it willingly skipped December's PlayStation Experience and never got a date nor an approximate launch window, so it was generally expected to land later, this despite the new film, Homecoming, releasing this summer. The project is now reportedly two and a half years in, so other than this quote it seems tight for a potential Q4 2017 launch.

Update: While not a denial from Insomniac, they took to Twitter today to point out that: "No release timeframe has been announced at this time" for the new Spider-Man game. As you were.

"The Heist is not a particularly impressive or memorable expansion, but it's fun and it comes with some interesting moments."
