As some readers may already be aware, Microsoft are not taking the virtual reality route like its competitors, but are going for augmented reality instead. They are producing an AR headset dubbed the 'HoloLens' and today the development kits are starting to ship to all the developers who are looking to get in on the action. Microsoft have also offered details on what buyers of the dev kit can expect to receive:

"Inside the box is the device, a carrying case, a cloth to clean the HoloLens with, a charger, Micro-USB 2.0 cable and the Clicker which enables the user to select, scroll, hold, and double-click during extended, interactive scenarios. The $3,000 kit will help build the future of holographic computing."

"Microsoft HoloLens is the first fully untethered, holographic computer, enabling you to interact with high‑definition holograms in your world."

You can read more about the HoloLens development kit on their website here.
