Quantic Dream's David Cage has revealed that Microsoft turned down the chance to publish Heavy Rain, because they were worried about the themes of kidnapping that featured so prominently in the story.
At yesterday's BAFTA games lecture (and via Polygon), Cage explained: "They really loved Fahrenheit, and they really wanted to do something with us."
The subsequent project turned out to be Heavy Rain, which eventually went on to became a Playstation exclusive. Cage says that Microsoft "got scared," because the story centres around the kidnapping of a child. "They didn't want the scandal."
"Microsoft is a great company, I'm not complaining or criticizing," he concluded. "It was like, you know, we really can't work together."
Quantic Dream's next game, Beyond: Two Souls, is another Playstation 3 exclusive and is due out next month. You can see the latest trailer for it below.
