Microsoft are working in partnership with companies like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus and Acer to make cheaper VR headsets with a starting price of $299 US dollars, which is roughly £244. This could potentially introduce a new wave of users to VR who have been held back by the steep prices of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

They seem to be a bit more user-friendly as well, as they don't need external accessories to function either.

"These headsets will be the first and only to ship with inside-out six-degree-of-freedom sensors. Unlike every other VR headset on the market today, this means there will be zero need for a separate room. Zero need for a complicated setup," Microsoft's Terry Myerson said at an press event yesterday.

The device doesn't seem to be pitched as a VR headset meant for gaming, but the possibility hasn't been excluded either. Would cheaper headsets encourage you to invest in VR?
