Microsoft's HoloLens to have around five hours of battery

VR is hot. Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and HTC Vive; all three are candidates fighting for attention when it comes to experiencing virtual realty.

Microsoft, however, has chosen a slightly different path. Instead of VR, they laid their eggs in a basket called Augmented Reality (AR), where the focus is on strengthening our existing reality. Now there's some additional details regarding what we can expect from the tech.

Battery life is going to be between 2.5 to 5.5 hours (depending on how the headset is used; regular usage will see the overall battery life lasting longer, but if people use it a lot then the duration of the battery's life will drop over time).

The so-called FOV effect (Field Of View) will be like standing around two feet away from a 15-inch screen, and the headset will also have Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity. The price to the public has yet to be decided, but a dev kit is expected to cost around $3,000 USD, and apparently they'll be made available sometime this quarter.

Microsoft's Bruce Harris revealed the latest info regarding the tech at a recent event in Tel Aviv (via Neowin). Apparently HoloLens will support Windows 10 devices, with hardware similar to what was mentioned last year: 2GB RAM, 802.11aca, an x86 processor and 60Hz refresh rate.
