Microsoft's interest in buying Obsidian Entertainment has been speculated over for some time, but in the past few days several insiders on channels such as Resetera and Kotaku have been claiming the takeover is now all but complete.
The terms of the deal are yet to be confirmed, and there has been no word on a potential announcement, so it's hard to say when we'll get official word, but the strength of the rumours certainly suggest that it's pretty much a done deal. The Californian studio, which has remained independent for the past 15 years, seems to be looking for financial stability to support their typically ambitious projects.
The move is in line with the recently announced buyout of other five studios as part of Microsoft's renewed first-party Xbox strategy, with the creators of Star Wars KOTOR 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity appearing to be a great fit as their flagship studio for the RPG genre.
What would you expect first by Obsidian... only on Xbox and Windows PC?
