Today at Minecon Earth, Mojang announced a brand new game, Minecraft Dungeons - a "passion project" that's been developed by a small team at the Stockholm studio for PC. The idea is that you can get to see the Minecraft world and combat its enemies from a different perspective in a different kind of game. Very much inspired by classic dungeon crawlers (Titan Quest and Diablo were mentioned), the game will feature the sort of things you expect from lots of loot to collect to co-op for up to four players. And secret levels...

"We think this will be a great fit for our PC community, and we will bring it to PC in 2019," said Mojang lead developer Jens Bergensten.

Currently, the game is in development for PC with a release next year planned, but Jens Bergensten did not want to rule out any other platforms when asked about it as Minecraft "is for everyone". The game is being built with Unreal Engine 4, so there's certainly potential to port it over later.

There's not a terrible amount of information released on Minecraft Dungeons just yet, but Mojang plans on sharing more on the project as release creeps closer.

REVIEW. Written by Jonas Mäki

"Mojang's new dungeon crawler is a nice surprise, and you shouldn't let the word "Minecraft" in the title fool you either."
