Monster Hunter: World could sell 10 million copies

At least that's what the president of Famitsu thinks.

There's no doubt that the industry legend and current president of Weekly Famitsu's publisher Enterbrain, Hirokazu Hamamura, knows the gaming business and market well, and in a recent interview with local site Mantan Web (via DualShockers) he said he believed Monster Hunter: World could sell 10 million copies worldwide.

He cited the fact that Final Fantasy XV has already sold seven million copies, the Switch has exceeded all sales expectations, the PS4 is still selling well (thanks to games like Final Fantasy XV and Dragon Quest XI), and that Japanese-style games like NieR: Automata, Nioh, and Persona 5 have been immensely popular in 2017. All of these things can then contribute to high sales numbers for Monster Hunter: World, he thinks.

It's also worth noting that the open beta was extremely popular, and Capcom already has more pre-orders of the game than expected. He also thinks the game will benefit from Steam sales when it finally launches on PC sometime this autumn.

Monster Hunter World will release worldwide on January 26 for PS4 and Xbox One, and for more information about the game check out our hands-on impressions.

What do you think of Hamamura's predictions?
