We caught up with game designer Carter McBee from Motiga to learn more about the 5 on 5 action game Gigantic that's heading to PC and Xbox One.

"It's got some elements of a MOBA, some elements of a shooter," explains McBee when asked to give us an overview of the game that's currently in alpha-testing (with closed beta testing coming up). What really sets the game apart from other action-MOBAs are the Guardians.

"The Guardians are really what sets it apart in a way from other games in that the Guardians are not just like a static tower sitting in the back, they're actually a giant AI controlled creature that breaks out onto the battlefield, starts fighting so you interact with it a lot."

The interview also deals with the range of characters and how playerstyles have been factored into the design, as well as ability upgrades, monetisation (beyond cosmetic items nothing has been decided), and much more.

Microsoft saw the potential Gigantic and acts as publisher, but Motiga is still very much in control of development and community relations.

"From the very beginning of this partnership with Microsoft it was that we retain complete creative control over the game," explains McBee. "So everything about the game, everything about how we run our community all that stuff is still on us. Microsoft is just providing the resources and helping us out a lot with the Xbox build."
