It's safe to say that Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is highly anticipated, and after stepping out of the battle at Gamescom we spoke with Tale World's Armağan Yavuz about the single-player portion, and what exactly players will be doing when they enter the battlefield.

"The game goes through various stages, so for example when you first start you are just some lonely adventurer, and you have just your horse and your sword and you have to make a name for yourself," he explained. "As you grow stronger create a following and you create a small band of warriors, and as you grow more powerful you can join a kingdom, you can become a vessel, and towards the end you can try to become maybe a ruler yourself and fight against different kingdoms."

"So we are trying to bring all those different stages together and make sure the gameplay mechanics work for all of them, so once the players learn the mechanics, he or she will be able to use those mechanics in different stages."

"So for example, in the new game we have an influence system, and when you join a kingdom you immediately have a lot of things. You can pretty much do everything the king can do, except that the king has a lot of influence so it's easier for him to do those things, whereas you have less influence. For example, if your kingdom captures a town, then there's kind of like a bidding process, and lords try to get all of that new fief by bidding their influence. So you have the exact same mechanic as a new player as the king, but you have to find different ways to use that."
