A new Dead or Alive 5 trailer not only reveals the heightening realism the studio has wrought onto its principal cast, but also introduces a new challenger to the fold.
Halfway through the video, a familiar cry, iconic jingle and text flash up on screen as Virtua Fighter's Akira Yuki enters the fray. The bout ends with both Virtua Fighter 5 and Dead or Alive 5's logos flash up.
Studio head Yosuke Hayashi has has mentioned in the past that he was interested in a crossover with Sega's fighting series, but given the two separate logos we'll have to assume that this is more cameo than proper crossover.
However, could Akira only be the first of a number of Virtua Fighters to be revealed? So far Dead or Alive's kept the cameo count to one - the likes of a Halo Spartan and the non-playable appearance of Metroid's Samus Aran have dogged the series before. Given the surge of interest this will create, we can't see Tecmo not capitalising on it.
