Last year Niantic held a Pokémon Go Fest which was plagued by connectivity issues and logistical problems that meant that eventually the game ground to a halt before the festivities had even begun, leading to a lawsuit, which TechCrunch reports has been settled by the developer paying around $1.5 million USD.

The event took place in Grant Park in Chicago, promising rare Pokémon not found in the area usually, which was made all the worse since attendees paid $25 to attend and catch these creatures. The reimbursement cost of $100 of in-game currency would have been fine had it not been for the fact that people had flown in, paid for accommodation, and more, meaning that a lot more money was wasted than just the ticket prices.

Niantic's costs are $1,575,000 according to TechCrunch, which is to reimburse those that attended, and any money that's left will pay lawyer fees and other court costs. Any money left over after those are paid will then go to the Illinois Bar Foundation and the Chicago Run organisation.

"It isn't without its flaws, but what's there is engaging, innovative, and most importantly, fun."
