When Nintendo unveiled the first ever gameplay clips and screens from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, fans of the series quickly noticed a few links to the very first game of the franchise, The Legend of Zelda for NES. Getting back to truly free-roaming open world, some artistic details and certain angles all gave it away, which is nice considering Breath of the Wind is close to the series' 30th anniversary.

Now, Nintendo not only openly acknowledges this bond, but, in a new entry to the official blog in Japan published just today, it's adding new proof on this link between the game from the eighties and the one coming out on Nintendo Switch and Wii U next year.

Some of the following references had been spotted by followers already, but others are surprising the community as we speak:

Of course, it's not the first Zelda to have nods to previous titles, but in this case it's way more deliberate. On the gallery, Nintendo has omitted the first clear reference found on Breath of the Wild to the original Zelda, which was elegantly suggested during the first gameplay demonstration of the Wii U game by creators Miyamoto and Aonuma:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch on both Nintendo Switch and Wii U between March and September 2017. Do you like modern games referencing their predecessors?
