Nintendo forecast a 2016 fiscal year profit of ¥17 billion, and according to this morning's official report it ended up at ¥16.5 billion, slightly less than anticipated, and more importantly, a 61% drop compared to FY2015 (¥41.8 billion).

With a severely impacted software lineup for 2016 in terms of both 3DS and in particular Wii U, and while waiting for NX to launch in March 2017 (more on that here), the company is trying to find revenue in new ways. Digital sales have consolidated in this regard (44 billion vs 31 billion in previous FY), and the new "Smart devices, IP related income" category managed to generate 5.7 billion. Nintendo plans to focus more on new sources of income in the mid-long term in order to expand their alternative business.

Other non-financial figures include, as of March 31, updated total hardware sales for consoles (Wii U at 12.8 million, 3DS at 58.5 million), software (84.04 million for Wii U, 274.18 for 3DS), Amiibo (53.6 million - figurines and cards combined) and specific titles (with, for example, Splatoon now at 4.27 million and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer at 3.04 million).
