Nintendo heading for tablets, mobile and PC

A lot of speculation has been circulating around Nintendo's foray into the world of mobile and tablets, and new details posted on Nintendo's Japanese home page have now confirmed that it's now more than just rumours.

Nintendo has teamed up with DeNA - publishers of strategy game Blood Brothers 2, social games and Molyneux' Godus - and it has been confirmed that the venture will extend to "joint development and operation of gaming applications for smart devices using Nintendo's intellectual property ("Nintendo IP"), including its characters."

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said this of the deal: "Nintendo, together with DeNA, will jointly develop a new membership service which encompasses the existing Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems, the new hardware system with a brand-new concept, NX, and smart devices and PCs."

Nintendo will also take aim at PC as well as tablets and mobile, with the new subscription service linking the new platforms with Nintendo's existing consoles.

"Unlike the Club Nintendo membership service that Nintendo has been operating, the new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses," Iwata added.

It looks like the gaming giant from Kyoto is finally ready to take the leap and potentially cash in on all the great IPs they've got.
