One of the most promising young Japanese indie developers, Ojiro Fumoto, has joined Nintendo. The young developer created the indie gem Downwell, which conquered our hearts (read our review) with its tight roguelike platforming and its charming pixel art. A style that seems in line with Nintendo's own output.
Nintendo secured the deal with Fumoto last month, and he just joined the company, as he announced yesterday, looking forward to now developing games in a team with other developers. Fumoto's role, ideas or potential projects are of course unknown for now, and Nintendo has kept lips shut on the matter.
As a curious note, Downwell only released on mobile, PC, and PS4, even though it could take some good advantage of the portability of the Nintendo Switch and even be played vertically. Perhaps it could make it out on Switch as well now?
