Today Nintendo has released its financial results for the last nine months, more precisely covering the period of April 1 to December 31 2016. The first bit of data that the company has revealed is related to the hardware and, according to them, from October 1 to December 31, 200,000 Wii U units and 3.73 million 3DS consoles have been sold. However, from April to December, Nintendo handheld consoles have sold 6.45 million units (+10% compared to the same period last year), while for Wii U, Nintendo has shipped 760,000 units (-75%), with 12,480,000 games sold (-45%). There's great success for the Nintendo NES Classic Mini, which sold over 200,000 units in North America in the launch month.

During this period, software sales reached 46.78 million (+20%) overall, where the two new games in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Sun/Moon, sold 14.69 million units in total. There's been a good performance also for Super Mario Maker for 3DS, which sold over a million copies. It's good news for Pokémon Go too, which has pushed Pokémon game sales, and also Nintendo 3DS sales, especially in the West. As for the mobile area, Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Run has exceeded 40 million downloads in the first four days after its launch.

For the last quarter of the fiscal year, Nintendo expects to get good results from the launch of their new console Switch and games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 1-2-Switch. During the fiscal year 2017 (which will start on April 1), Nintendo plans to launch games such as Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Odyssey, so we expect to see a lot of sales for these games.
