On the occasion of Super Mario Maker's official release today, Nintendo has released a new patch for the game (1.0.1) that removes a feature that many fans haven't appreciated: the 9 Day Unlocking System.

As you might have read in our enthusiastic review, Nintendo's level editor didn't allow us to immediately unlock all of the available tools, with new features made accessible on a day-to-day basis.

While Nintendo had probably chosen this path to allow new users the chance to become familiar with the various tools found in the game, it will have no doubt slowed the progress of more capable players.

While it should be mentioned that this process could be bypassed easily, simply by changing the date on your Wii U, of course we also appreciate that Nintendo has listened to player feedback and wanted to make the game more accessible and fun for everyone.

Super Mario Maker is now available only on Wii U, and you can see it in action over on our Livestream Replay.
