Today, Nintendo announced the gradually shutdown of the digital Wii network. Every related service will over the course of the next 18 months be shut down and taken offline. That basically means we have no longer access to the Wii eShop, WiiWare, Virtual Console titles, the Wii U transfer tool or the channel info.

Starting on Monday, March 26, 2018 (20:00 BST) it no longer possible to add Nintendo points to your account. On Thursday, January 31, 2019 (06:00 BST) we can no longer buy games via the Wii eShop, although digital purchases are still available for download. Later that year Nintendo is planning to disable the Wii servers completely. With that our digital games will no longer be available for downloads.

By the way, you can access the Wii eShop via the Wii emulator of the Wii U to pick up what you need.

This acts as a reminder the digital services and purchases don't last forever, so make sure you've bought and downloaded what you want to keep in time.

Do you still use your Wii on occasion?
