Earlier today Nintendo announced that current president Tatsumi Kimishima is going to step down and in his place, the 46-year-old Shuntaro Furukawa will step in as president of one of the oldest and most cherished companies in the video games industry. Kimishima assumed the position in July 2015 after Saturo Iwata's untimely passing, and has been shepherding the company through the successful build up towards and launch of Nintendo Switch.

Furukawa has been operating as the president av The Pokémon Company for the past six years and prior to that served as "Supervisor of Corporate Analysis & Administration Division". The prior president Tatsumi Kimishima stated he feels the company needs a younger president than himself (68) to better understand the needs of their customers. Kimishima will remain in his position until June.
