No co-op planned for Dishonored 2

And Harvey Smith recommends that we play it through more than once.

When Dishonored 2 was first announced back at E3 2015 we discovered that you'll be able to play as either Corvo, the first game's protagonist, or Emily, the late Empress' daughter. We weren't sure what this meant for the game, though. Would we be getting two-player co-op along with the second protagonist? While we knew that the two characters would have drastically different play-styles, we didn't know much else.

In an interview with GameInformer (and via Gamespot) the game's creative director, Harvey Smith, explained that whilst we will be able to play as two main characters, there will be no co-op functionality.

"Our game is about observation, stealth, taking your time, and playing at your own pace," Smith told the American site. "Co-op would destroy it. Maybe there is a way somebody could do it, but this is not that experience."

The man from Arkane also revealed that in order to get the full experience, you'll need to play through the game twice, maybe more.

"There is a lot of our game that nobody sees. We're throwing away huge amounts of work from that perspective," Smith said. "But from our perspective, that's what makes it special - the fact that as you proceed through the game, you constantly have this sense that it's much bigger than what you're doing."

It was recently announced that Dishonored 2 will be released on November 11 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and yesterday we learnt more about the star-studded line-up of actors set to star in the stealthy steampunk sequel.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"Arkane Studios has crafted an excellent stealth-driven action-adventure, and without doubt it's one of the best games of the year."
