Erica is an upcoming PlayLink game for PS4 that's all about the titular protagonist trying to uncover a truth about a killer on the loose, and we spoke to Flavourworks CEO Jack Attridge at E3, where we asked about the medium the game is presented on, i.e. via the PlayLink function on mobile phones.

He explained to us that the goal was to create "something so accessible that someone who's never played a game before, someone who hasn't grown up with 30 years of conventions, can still play it, and a big part of that for us was we realised that maybe a phone was a really nice way to play this experience with. You can still use a DualShock and we use the gyroscope and the touchpad and all that, but the phone's the most intimate personal device you have - everyone's got one in their pocket - and it's a very tactile and expressive screen, so we thought that'd be a really cool way to be able to play the game as an option, and since then Sony have come up with PlayLink and they're doing that sort of thing with quite a few titles. It's not something that's just for casual and new gamers, but it's ultimately there in these more core, meaningful game experiences."

"That idea that film and games have always worked together is not a new idea, but it's the formula and the way those things work together that we're really passionate about, and I think no-one's really cracked in the way that we're doing. It's down to hundreds of little things that you might not see, and we don't necessarily explain what they are, but you feel them when you're playing, and it's a way of really connecting and feeling like this is as phenomenal a narrative experience as any other game."

Do you like PlayLink as a form for games? Can Erica work well with it?
