At Microsoft's big X018 event in Mexico City, it was confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment is to become the 13th studio, following fellow Interplay alumni InXile Entertainment to be a part of Microsoft Studios. The studio founded by Feargus Urquhart, Chris Parker, Chris Avellone, Darren Monahan, and Chris Jones in 2003 following Interplay's closure of their RPG division Black Isle Studios, has been responsible for some truly great game including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (2004), Neverwinter Nights 2 (2006), Fallout: New Vegas (2010), South Park: The Stick of Truth (2014), Pillars of Eternity (2015), Tyranny (2017), and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire (2018).

The studio is currently working on a major new project headed by some of key people behind the original Fallout and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, that was to be published by Take-Two's new label Private Division. It is unclear whether this deal will change that partnership.

With Obsidian Entertainment and InXile Entertainment onboard Microsoft Studios all of a sudden sports a very strong RPG side, plugging a hole in their line-up that's been there since the closure of Lionhead Studios.
