We've already spoken to Contra: Rogue Corps producer Nobuya Nakazato this year about the return to the classic series from Konami, but at Gamescom we talked with him again about the upcoming title, and the challenges of bringing back such an iconic franchise for modern audiences.

"As you know, Contra is known for its couch co-op, you play with your buddies together on one screen, however, because [of the] introduction to online multiplayer and people playing separately, and you're playing with people from all around the world, so you want to also incorporate that into this game, making sure that you're still getting the feeling that you're playing with your buddies, but you get to play with people from all around the world," he said via a translator.

In terms of new features, "you can actually upgrade and customise your weapons, but you also get to see some of your favourite types of weapons that you know and that you played back in the day", he continued, adding that the new threat is also going to be joined by some familiar villains from yesteryear.

Did you enjoy co-op in Contra back in the day?
