The Overwatch League has been one of the biggest events in esports this year already, and it turns out that the recent start of Stage 2 of the competition has reached a big milestone, as The Epsorts Observer has reported that it beat out the North American League of Legends Championship Series (NA LCS) in terms of average concurrent viewers on Twitch in the first week of competition.

This is the first time the Overwatch League has done this, reaching an average of 154,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch in the first week of Stage 2, significantly higher than the NA LCS figure of 106,000 and the EU LCS figure of 61,000. This is all the more impressive when you consider this is the inaugural season for the Overwatch League, and that Overwatch itself has only been out since May 2016.

It's worth noting that there are a number of caveats to consider though, including the fact that YouTube figures aren't included, and that this is one week out of many for both competitions, but it's still interesting when you consider this is the first time that this has happened since the launch of the Overwatch League, and may be helped in no small part by the recently announced Twitch rewards for watching, which racked up $150,000 USD in Cheers in the first day.

Can the Overwatch League get consistent popularity? And if so, how can it make sure this happens?
