Hi-Rez Studios' Paladins: Champion of the Realm has garnered quite a loyal following since arriving on the scene, and now the developer has announced that the game is receiving a Battle Royale mode, called simply Champions: Battlegrounds.

In this Battlegrounds mode players find themselves among 99 other players within one giant map that'll gradually become smaller due to a mysterious fog, which swallows everything that gets in its way. In contrast to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Champions: Battlegrounds still keeps its team-based structure and own gameplay elements, like mounting and riding horses for additional speed and different heroes to choose from at the start of a match. The MOBA roots can definitely make a difference in the Battle Royale genre; just think about the different roles like supporters and tanks.

We don't have a release date for the Champions: Battlegrounds mode yet, but Hi-Rez Studios' schedule is set to 2018. Starting next Wednesday the base game will also receive an additional update on PC (PS4 and Xbox One versions are said to get the update one week later on January 17), and with this content patch the developer will introduce a new frosty character called Moji, the Team Deathmatch gameplay mode, and a new map (Trade District).

You can get an idea about the new features from the two trailers you can find below. Will Battle Royale work well with Paladins?

REVIEW. Written by Sam Bishop

"Considering it's free-to-play Paladins might just win you over if you give it a try, and we'd definitely recommend you to do so."
