The September release date won't be hit, although fans will get Backer Build 5 to enjoy on that date.

Snapshot Games is currently working on Phoenix Point, a spiritual successor to the original Xcom series coming from its creator Julian Gollop, although it turns out that we won't be getting our hands on the game when the proposed release date of September 3 rolls around.

That's because the team at Snapshot has revealed a slight delay, meaning we can now expect the game at some point in December, and part of this is to keep crunch to a minimum while still maintaining the quality of the experience, as well as their "very high standards".

"We know this is not our first delay, and we are very sorry to the fans who we know are highly anticipating getting their hands on Phoenix Point. No one is more disappointed than we are, but we collectively agree that we would rather miss a launch date than ship something that does not meet our exacting standards. We want the Phoenix Point you play to be one of your favorite games of all time, and that means we need a bit more time," the post reads.

That said, we also get the news that Backer Build 5 is coming on September 3, so at least there will be something to play on that date for backers and early-access buyers. Feedback is welcomed with this too, so that fans can help shape the game when it launches in full.

Are you happy to wait for a good-quality game?

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"We can forgive a few cut corners and some scaled back elements given budgetary constraints, but it's clear that the game needs a bit more spit and polish if it's going to really sparkle."
