Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries has just released to continue the franchise after nearly 20 years (you can check out our review here), and while there might not be VR support right now, that's not being ruled out by the developers.
VentureBeat reached out to Piranha Games to ask about VR support, and got a simple yet vague answer:
"Officially, Piranha is still interested in VR as a platform, but no plans to consider implementation until next year."
As VentureBeat pointed out, the studio president Russ Bullock tweeted in late 2016 that the game was "designed" to support VR, and it seems that it's still on their radar despite launching without the feature.
Mechs have been a regular approach for VR games for a long time, letting the user remain stationary as the mech around them moves, so it makes sense to ask whether Mechwarrior 5 could also do the same.
We played the game for a few hours on our livestream last week, so if you want to check it out before you invest, look at the replay below.
Is this a perfect fit for VR?
