The PlayStation 4 Neo is real. But does the fact that there's a more powerful PS4 coming change plans for the PlayStation 5? That's something many people have been wondering, whether a re-tuned PS4 will break the usual console cycle.

But that's not the case, says Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. Speaking to Gameswelt.tv he says:

"PS4 is PS4. The new high-end PS4 is still PS4."

It's a similar situation with Scorpio, with next year's high performance console set to exist inside the same ecosystem as Xbox One. Platform holders are clearly looking to iterate on technology more regularly, and release new hardware mid-cycle, while still keeping the overall community together.

Overall it looks like good news for consumers, who can either choose to upgrade or stick with what they've got.
