PlayStation division turns a profit

Sony has published the financial report for the first quarter of the financial year, which shows a healthy profit, especially from the Game and Network Services division.

The division has in fact made a profit of 43 million dollars, compared to the 159 million dollars of loss last year. Sony credits the strong sales of the PS4 as well as the significant increase in revenue from network services for this welcome bump. Profit was also helped by the fact that production costs for PS4 dropped.

The PS3 and PS4 shipped 3.5 million units during the quarter, which is especially good when compared to the Xbox One and the Xbox 360, which only managed 1.1 million units during the same period.

All in all Sony pushed their profits in this quarter to $268 million.
