A little while back at GDC, we spoke to Michael Levall, the the man behind the upcoming indie title Please Knock on my Door. It is narratively based game that focuses on the life of a man living his day to day life with depression. According to Levall, the game tries to "help you understand what it feels like to be alone."

The game is all based around helping the player understand the lives of people who are depressed or with mental health issues, and get across how someone with these issues would feel.

"Please knock on my door is not about winning or losing, and I try to make it clear that it's always their choice. It isn't necessarily the wrong choice to never go to work and then get the 'negative' ending, but it can be necessary to get the entire experience of the game and to understand fully what the game is trying to tell you about these very difficult themes."

Levall also talks about how he hopes people can use the game to help understand their own feelings, or portray their feelings or circumstances to someone else.

"I want to give a voice to someone who doesn't have the strength to use their own. For instance, if someone is currently going through depression plays my game and they think 'this is what I'm feeling,' and someone approaches them and asks what they are going through, they could just hand them the game."
