Port Royale 3: Pirates & Merchants launched all the way back in 2012, but at Gamescom Opening Night Live yesterday we got word of a sequel coming our way in Q3 of 2020, as well as a brand new trailer to throw us back into the strategy series.

In the game you'll be able to tackle four single-player campaigns following a nation, and you'll need to trade with 60 Caribbean cities to succeed, although mind out for stormy weather and other hazards when establishing trade routes. Towns and buildings will also need to be constructed to make the most of your time, and on the seas you can expect to see 18 historically accurate ships.

It might not all be plain sailing though, which is why there's tactical, turn-based naval combat for when things get hairy, and growing your reputation will also see you unlock more ships, as well as licenses, building permits, and more.

For more on the game head on over to the official site, and check out the trailer and screens below. Are you a fan of the series?

REVIEW. Written by Marco Vrolijk

"If you're able to look beyond the combat-related shortcomings, this is the kind of game that keeps you up playing deep into the night."
