According to Sony Japan's PS Vita storefront, the two editions that remain will end production soon. Both black and blue units of the revised Vita console are currently available. However, when you navigate through to the description of the SKUs, both say that "shipments are scheduled to end soon".

The PlayStation Vita, Sony's second handheld gaming console, never lived up the lofty expectations the PSP set. As the successor to the popular handheld, the Vita has struggled in the market since its launch in 2011, thought largely down to huge growth in the mobile gaming market on Android and Apple devices, along with other reasons.

One region where the Vita sold relatively well was Japan, where production of the handheld device has outlasted other regions by a fair margin. The Vita sold 5.89 million units in Japan, compared to 5.24 million in Europe and a measly 2.56 million in the US (estimates courtesy of VGChartz). Considering the market sizes, the Vita fared much better in the Japanese market. 2019 seems to be the year that we will say our final goodbye to the PlayStation Vita, worldwide.

Do you think the Vita was underappreciated?
