There is really only one horse in the German console race - PlayStation 4. In the last twelve months Sony has built a massive lead in Europe's second largest video game market (second only to the UK). According to GfK (Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung) (via Börse Online) 2.8 million PS4 units have been sold. This compared to the competition, Wii U with 690,000 units (and one more year on the market) and Xbox One with 600,000 units. To put it into perspective, for every Xbox One sold in Germany there are more than 4.5 PS4 units sold.

Sales for PlayStation 4 are holding steady as 1.4 million units had been sold by the end of last year and this has now been doubled. This can be compared to Xbox One that only sold 270,000 units in 2015 and thus can be said to be slowing down as the gap widens, not just in actual numbers but also seen in market share percentages.

Sony's stranglehold on the German market is made all the more obvious when looking at their holiday sales. A massive 570,000 units were sold in November and December. Compare this to the 110,000 Xbox One units sold and you'll notice the ratio in November and December was more than 5 PS4s to every Xbox One sold. PS4 is also well on its way to leapfrog sales of PS3 in Germany (4.2 million up until August, 2014).

As far as software sales go FIFA 16 managed 1.2 million copies, while GTAV sold a massive 780,000 copies in its third year on market, and FIFA 15 still managed to add 450,000 copies to its tally in 2015.
