Four of eleven (5/11 considering Ronaldo still spent first half of 2018 in white) players from FIFA 19's Team of the Year are Real Madrid players, which may have something to do with the 'merengues' lifting their 13th Champions League cup at the end of last season (and little to do with their LaLiga performance as of late) and Varane picking up the World Cup win against Modric's Croatia.
Ballon d'Or style, the TOTY has been decided based on the votes of athletes, media reps and FIFA forums members, and makes for a neat selection of players that then become available at the Ultimate Team mode (with forwards having already been released).
