It's not every day that you review the single from a videogame. It's my first time anyway. Swedish singer (and former Snowboard star) Lisa Miskovsky performs the theme from Mirror's Edge - Still Alive, written by Rami Yacoub and Arnthor Birgison from Maratone. They have previously worked with Britney Spears, Pink, Westlife and others. Powerful and melodic pop is their melody and Still Alive lives up to that tradition. It strikes me as more serious and dark than what Maratone usually are up to, in terms of lyrics and tone, which fits the game and its themes perfectly. It is still very much a pop song, though. Lisa's voice comes across as surprisingly strong although the song is bordering on being overproduced.

It is going to be very interesting to see what will happen if Mirror's Edge becomes a big international success, perhaps that will be a breakthrough on the International stage for Lisa Miskovsky as well. The EP with Still Alive also includes five remixes of the song by Benny Benassi, Junkie XL, Paul van Dyk, Teddybears and Armand van Helden. I liked the Junkie XL remix the best of those.

Perhaps we will see more of this kind of single releases with themes from western games in the future from now on... of course it's been done a lot in Japan already.

I'm not going to assign a number to this review, but I liked the song... and I think I'm going to like it even more when I'm playing the game.

You can probably find the track on Youtube and elsewhere... if you are curious.
