A few days ago we reported on the rumours that the 2021 League of Legends World Championship would be held in Iceland (alike the Mid-Season Invitational), between October 5 and November 6, to make up for the change in location due to Covid-19 travel concerns.
Well now, we can officially report that this is in fact true, as Riot has released a blog post explaining the format for the tournament and its dates/location.
Worlds 2021 will take place at the Laugardalshöll indoor sporting arena in Reykjavík, Iceland, and will be between October 5 and November 6. The format will include 22 teams from around the globe, who will compete in a variety of different stages. Ten teams will play in the Play-Ins to earn a spot in the Groups bracket where teams will be fighting for a spot in the Knockouts bracket. The top seeded teams from around the biggest LoL regions will not have to compete in the Play-Ins, as they will have already qualified for the Group stages.
