Risk of Rain launched back in 2013, and it was a decent 2D roguelike-like shooter with plenty of depth. Now developer Hopoo Games has confirmed that a sequel is in the works, but by the sounds of it, it's going to be a very different kettle of procedurally-generated fish.

"Risk of Rain 2 is our first fully 3D project," the studio confirmed on its blog. "We think that 3D allows for much deeper design spaces and more possibilities for cool gameplay. Feelings of scale and atmosphere are also much stronger. We are really happy with the core of Risk of Rain - and we're finding it plays even better in 3D. It just won't crash anymore."

You can see a couple of gifs over on the blog linked above, but other than that the solitary screenshot you can gaze upon below is all we can see of this roguelike-like sequel at the time of writing.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It's one of the best shooters of the year, and unless you're allergic to roguelikes, consider this a firm recommendation."
