Roller Champions was one of the surprises at Ubisoft's E3 press conference, along with Watch Dogs Legion of course, and we caught up with Live Operations Manager Naomi Barnes to hear more about the game that introduces us to a brand new sport.

"Well we wanted to create something new and we like to play the whole thing of spectacle versus gaming, and how do you blend those together? And the best way to do it is to create a sport. So we took influences from things such as roller derbies, soccer, racing, hockey, and tried to blend it all into one," she said.

We also talked a little bit about the development process, since the game launched an early access test during E3.

"Currently we have six different characters - they're specifically for the E3 demo that we have right now. Later on we will have customisation but we'll talk about that more closer to launch," Barnes explained. "We're still very early in the process of development, we're actually pre-alpha, so we still have a ways to go before launch, but launch is just on the horizon."

Did you try the E3 demo?
