Rumour: "Final Fantasy XII remake coming out soon"

During a Distant Worlds concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, conductor Arnie Roth let slip that a Final Fantasy XII remake is in development and "coming out soon". Did he confuse VII with XII? Or is there another remake coming? Or might it be a "remaster" of the original PS2 title making its way onto PS4? We have no idea to be honest, but Square-Enix have been tapping into the nostalgia vein a lot lately, so we wouldn't rule anything out.

An update on the official Distant Worlds: Final Fantasy Facebook page put the rumours of a remake or even a remaster to rest:

"Dear friends,

In response to comments posted by fans, I want to rectify a statement made from the stage Saturday night at our Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY concert in Pittsburgh.

Following conversations with composer Hitoshi Sakimoto regarding new concert arrangements of music from FINAL FANTASY XII, regrettably, the term ‘remake' was used in error during one of the announcements that took place from the stage during the concert.

We sincerely regret any confusion this has caused.
