Why do video games continue to be used while completely out of context? The latest case came from the UK Russian embassy's Twitter account, that shared a screenshot from Command & Conquer: Generals - an RTS released by EA in 2003. The pic was used to represent "extremists" in Aleppo.
Aleppo is the largest city in Syria, and as we know, is going through a civil war of devastating proportions. According to the Russian Embassy, the "Extremists near Aleppo received several truckloads of chemical ammo", and decided to illustrate that with an image of three green trucks from Command & Conquer.
In all fairness, the Russian embassy did add that the image was only used for illustration purposes, but as you can imagine, the Internet did not let this go to waste, and filled the embassy's Twitter account with hilarious comments, which you can see here.
