In October of last year the potential title for the next Tomb Raider game leaked in the most face-palm-worthy manner (i.e. a picture of a laptop screen snapped on public transport). Thus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider was rumoured to be in the works at Eidos Montreal. Now a new leak, this time including artwork, makes the project all the more believable, and we're just waiting for the official announcement.

Marketing materials created by Takeoff Creative in California and posted on their official site unveiled new details with regards to the upcoming adventure, including a potential setting and some of Lara's new weapons and tools. And while the work (indeed the whole site) was taken offline, it was grabbed by a sharp-eyed soul and it's now public knowledge.

According to the promo text, Lara Croft will follow Assassin's Creed Origins and visit the pyramids, though the exact setting hasn't been confirmed as yet. On top of that, the weather will take a bigger toll this time, and looks like preparing for tough conditions will be vital. Finally, new climbing tools and weapons such as a sword, a larger knife or even a spear might be part of Ms. Croft's arsenal.

Eidos Montreal seems to be developing this third entry in the origins trilogy, with creators Crystal Dynamics focusing on The Avengers Project. Now, fans might wonder why the new Tomb Raider wasn't announced/shown at this year's E3, but if it's launching next year, perhaps it'd steal the show at Gamescom?

REVIEW. Written by Sam Bishop

"It retreads much of the same ground while offering minor tweaks to the existing formula."
