Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse has been released in the US today, and unfortunately a few lines of untranslated text have slipped through the localisation.

Luckily, there are only two lines of text that went untranslated, and in order to trigger them a very specific sequence of events must occur. During a boss battle near the end of the game, if one of the player's companions is knocked out, it takes three turns for them to revive. The untranslated line will only show up if the boss uses one of its dialogue lines while the companion is knocked out.

As the Atlus Website states, "it's a relatively rare set of circumstances that will lead players to encounter the aberrant text, and hopefully won't even be discovered by the vast majority of players."

The game launched in the US with the lines still there, and Atlus have apologised and will be trying to fix the issue in the future, but as of right now they aren't sure if it's feasible to do so post-launch, nor do they have a timetable for it.

This mistake happened partly because the testers for the game, the ones who were responsible for finding the line, were essentially too good, and none of them ran into it at any point. On a positive note, it has caused the publisher to go through the scripts for their other games, like Persona 5, to make sure it doesn't happen again.

We won't provide a screenshot of the missed translation here, as it could potentially spoil a part of the end of the game, but it should be pretty easy to find elsewhere. Drop us a comment below with your thoughts on the situation. Should the translation have slipped through so easily?
