Xbox has long been the console of choice for fans of the shooter genre, but this generation has marked a notable change in that trend, this according to PlayStation UK marketing manager Lauren Bradley.

Speaking to MCV, Bradley said: "This generation, the shooter audience is tending to switch over to PS4, so we've got high expectations for Star Wars Battlefront around both launch and into next year."

While no actual figures were given to support the claim, it's clear Sony is taking strong measures to capture that share of the market. The hardware giant has secured marketing or exclusivity deals on three of the year's biggest shooters, Destiny, Star Wars Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. This marks a change for the CoD franchise which has, until now, launched all of its DLC first on Xbox.

The company has also created special edition PS4 consoles for all three games and features in the holiday TV advertising campaign for Star Wars Battlefront.

"When we first saw [the Battlefront TV ad] I think everyone in the office suddenly had something in their eye. It really pulls on the heart strings and celebrates nostalgia, which aligns well with PlayStation's 20th anniversary," Bradley said.
