Gamers that are super into the technical side of things will know about a feature called Vertical Sync (or Vsync for short) that lets you synchronise a game's frame-rate with the refresh rate of the screen for improved stability and less screen tearing, and a new rumour seems to suggest that this PC-centric feature might appear in the next PlayStation.

As reported by Gear Nuke, back in May Sony applied for a patent that was recently approved and then registered to PlayStation's parent company Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, and the description reads: "Video frame rate compensation through adjustment of vertical blanking".

The process of Vsync is very intensive on GPU, hence we haven't seen it a whole lot before, but it could be part of the technical advancement happening if we see a new PlayStation. For more on the nitty-gritty of the tech though be sure to check out Sony's patent in the link above.

Would you want to see Vsync in a new PlayStation?
