At Gamescom, we sat down for a prop-enhanced chat with Soul Calibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo, to learn more about the game and its development:

"The first thing is when we first started to develop and plan for Soul Calibur VI we realised the strength of the Soul Calibur series is the world of Soul Calibur itself and the single-player mode. So we decided to make the volume of the single-player the biggest to date."

While it was clear Okubo was very proud of Groh whose double sword was placed against the wall, he did have somewhat mixed emotions about Voldo whose claws were worn during the interview as he did really like to fight him because he's "a slightly disgusting weird character".

Since the interview was conducted, Cervantes and Raphael have been added to the roster, but this is what Okubo had to say about what's left to reveal (beyond Gamescom):

"Most characters have already been announced, but there might be a few more to be added. And in terms of other details I think the main features have been announced, but there are of course some little bits left to be announced later. So far I feel like our fans have been very happy with all the developments and the progress of the new title. In terms of the launch date being later in the year, what happened was that I asked the company to delay it a little bit so that I could make very good final adjustments and tuning. So now that we're going to launch very soon I think the fans must be looking forward to it and I am quite excited."

Soul Calibur VI is set for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 19.

Soul Calibur VI
Slightly disgusting? We're not sure Voldo would agree.

"For newcomers it's a great opportunity to dip a toe in this legendary fighting series, and for older fans, it feels like a warm and lovely welcome back."
