File this one under embarrassments. During yesterday's edition of the morning show La mañana de la 1 on Spanish public television, someone made the massive mistake of posting the Rebel Alliance symbol during a segment on Syria.

You would think that someone at TVE would make the connection and see that something was amiss as the emblem was attributed to the terrorist organisation al-Qaeda while they explained links between al-Qaeda and Daesh/Isis. The topic was under discussion in the wake of the terrible terrorist attacks that took place in Paris last weekend, and the subsequent French military reaction on Raqqa.

When the general public spotted the mistake, social media such as Twitter, Facebook or YouTube burned up quickly with harsh criticism of the station, while some have preferred to make fun of it by doing parodies (including X-Wing ships and similar montages).

Given the avalanche on the web that followed, host Jota Abril has apologised on his Twitter. Of course, it should be noted that this sort of thing is hardly the responsibility of someone in front of the camera, but rather the responsibility of someone behind it.

People searching the internet found that there is a Reggaetón record label called Alqaedas Inc who have already appropriated the Star Wars logo (without approval from Disney, as far as we understand it), adding more confusion to Google results. A lesson to everyone out there, don't trust Google image results without checking first.
