Ever since Rage 2 - the collaborative sequel from id Software and Avalanche Studios - was announced we caught up with id Software studio director Tim Willits in various locations all over the world, from the Avalanche offices in Stockholm to E3 in Los Angeles, Gamescom in Cologne, and QuakeCon in Texas. Finally, with just over a month to go until release we caught up with Willits in Boston at the Bethesda Game Day during PAX East for another chat about the sequel we never really thought would see the light of day.

"Rage really set the stage for things we did in Doom 2016 and Quake Champions and this is an evolutionary step where with the special abilities, the slam and the shatter, kind of allows you to orchestrate the combat the way that you want to," he explained. "And our guns are very meaty and over the top. We try to get the player into the action. So, I think, really the biggest thing is speed, the abilities, and the weapons have really come a long way from the original."

The full interview covered subjects like the weapons in more detail, but also the game world both its size and design, as well as the narrative structure.

Rage 2 is due out on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 14. Has Willits sold you on the game?

REVIEW. Written by Kim Orremark

"It can be really fun, but in many ways, the experience feels stretched out and the content on offer doesn't match up with the quality of the minute-to-minute gameplay."
